Doctors Discover Disembarkment Syndrome

Kimberly Johnson went on a cruise with her mother and sister. The three women had a lot of fun. Johnson's sister even fell in love. But Johnson got seasick on the boat ride. Strangely, her mother and sister didn't feel anything. And when the boat landed, things got worse. Johnson felt like she was still on the boat. She still constantly felt seasick. Worst of all, Johnson's seasickness didn't go away. She stayed seasick for days, weeks, and months after the cruise ended. Her problem even lasted for years. Johnson went to several doctors. However, none of them could figure out what was wrong.

When Deb Russo flew to Aruba with her husband, there were serious problems at the airport. The plane took off, but had to land again. That happened several times. Each time, the plane ride was very jerky. Russo did not feel well. And even when the plane landed, she continued to feel sick. It has now been three years since her trip to Aruba, and Russo still feels motion sickness. Like Johnson, her sickness is constant.

Finally, doctors have figured out what is wrong with the two women. They have disembarkment syndrome. It is a very rare disease and many doctors are unfamiliar with it. Disembarkment syndrome makes people feel like they are always on a rocky boat. It generally happens to women who have been on a rocky boat ride. Their bodies adjust to the constant state of motion, and then they get stuck that way.

Johnson and Russo met at a doctor's office where they were both trying alternative medicines for disembarkment syndrome. One thing that worked was a special vest that vibrates when the person wearing it is off balance. The two women also tried socks that do the same thing. Unfortunately, there is no cure for disembarkment syndrome. However, when those with disembarkment syndrome get in a moving vehicle like a car or plane, the symptoms start to go away.
